Fast Food Burgers Losing Popularity

Americans are losing their taste for burgers and fries, according to financial analysts at Janney Capital Markets. The firm, sticking its neck out, predicts that when 2020 rolls around, the only hamburger chain to be found in the top five fast food chains will be McDonald's. Wendy's and Burger King, at numbers 4 and 5 respectively last year, will have lost their places, shouldered out by Dunkin' Donuts and Chick-fil-A.

Predictions are often none too reliable, but providing some accompanying food for thought, Jillian Berman of The Huffington Post writes,

"Americans' tastes are evolving," Mark Kalinowski, Janney's lead restaurant analyst, told The Huffington Post, with customers hungrier for more "adventuresome" foods like the offerings at Chipotle or Taco Bell.

And the lower-income customer base for McDonald's, and its burger-flipping rivals Wendy's and Burger King, is still struggling, years after the recession, McDonald's Chief Operating Officer Tim Fenton recently admitted.
