The NFL ain't a Quizno's

Al Davis epitomizes the distinction between the sports "franchise" and the "franchise" that most of us know.

Davis could fight the "franchisor" (Pete Rozelle) in public, and win. That is because the "franchisor" is not really a franchisor at all, but more of a collective voice of the various team owners.

Try that with a Kroc, Schaden, or DeLuca and you'll be shredded to bits.
