Denny's same restaurant sales vs IHOP's

Blue MauMau received this email from a Denny's franchisee in response to the article Giant IHOP Leads Family Dining in 2013:

While I respect IHOP’s investor relations effort, the hard question is ‘up over what’? A summary of SSS [same store sales] for Q4 and fiscal year for the two brands is below.

The cumulative increase over the last three years for Denny’s is a much better result than being up after two consecutive years of declines.  IHOP’s average weekly volumes for 2013 are still below their 2010 volumes while Denny’s has a 4.8% increase in average weekly volumes since 2010.

Our collaboration within the Brand continues to be energizing and constructive.  Our business is always a challenge, but the collective leadership from the DFA Board and Denny’s are committed to long term value creation.
